Dear Starbucks....

Dear Starbucks,

This is a story most mom's can tell, but do they?!
I'm writing on behalf of the decaffeinated, the play-date-dream-broken, & the bereaved.
I'm writing for all the moms who have planned the out-of-the-box play date,
the women who imagined the perfect scenario playing out beside their fellow veteran(s),
& the moms who are constantly reminded of what perfect parents we were....before children.

Like most golden play dates, it begins with YOU, Starbucks.
You're the goal...the reward...nay, you give us purpose, reason & fulfillment just with ONE little cup & one emerald green straw.
Starbucks, this story is for you.

So the story starts like this...

It was a cool, crisp morning in Lake Oswego.
Leila and I were looking forward to sitting river side on the Willamette (damnit!)
The dream included a picnic blanket, beach towels, & shovels
(or kitchen spoons since we're the ultra creative type).
It had been weeks since we had seen each other & the kids kept saying (read: begging relentlessly) to play.
Why NOT try a new park, a new place to roam, an adventure?

We showed up to a serene setting.

We set up camp & threw the spoons to the kids and released them to begin creating clean, organized river dirt castles.

Oh, sweet divinity!
Leila & I would now....finally...warm our hands & bellies with liquid gold: lattes!
Grande, Skinny Vanilla, Lattes!
(By the way, thank you, Starbucks, for making it such a great drink to order.
"SKINNY Vanilla latte for Allegra!" the barista shouts over the fans & I'm all too confident & happy to claim it: "That's right! That's MY Skinny drink....and my cake pop...)

This is when things get good.

The kids aren't staying on the river bed...they're quickly approaching the river.
No, wait, they're IN the river.
($&!* . Oh, well. WE have Starbucks!)

Then...the unthinkable!
That cute little, old, pink haired lady with the knee brace & clearly too-much-for-her wet river soaked dog come screaming through OUR imperfectly perfect Mom Moment!

Grande SKINNY lattes & hot chocolate are E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E
Wet river mud has caked not only us but the blanket, the beach towels, and our bodies.
Our jaws drop.
The dog is not just taking a single pass through our space but multiple.
Multiple jumpy, dirty, barky, gross passes through OUR mom moment.
It seems we now have nothing to live for.

Our children are disgusting (more so than before)
Our coffee is gone!
>>>OUR SKINNY VANILLA LATTES ARE GONE!<<<<

That's not just our fuel but it was our hard saved pennies!
That ONE thing that gets to be ours...that one SWEET, expensive, indulgent treat...
it's GONE along with our money.

We are now left with
no apology
confirmed dislike of domesticated pets
no coffee
dirty kids
& we are convinced we are on "Boiling Point"

Oh, Starbucks...you are the reason we manage & the devastation when the cup goes forcibly dry.
You save us from our worst selves...until someone else strips us of our moment.
We may never recover.
(Well, until we save up for the next cup.)

With Love,
Allegra & Leila

Starbucks Holiday Drink Tasting!

A couple of weekends ago, Starbucks offered a Buy One Get One Free from 2-5pm on their holiday drinks!
Not one to pass something like this up, you could say I took advantage of the offer!

Spending the weekend with my cousin always spurs creative energy and fun activity.
We decided that we four adults would like to try a large portion of Starbucks Holiday Drink Menu!
So, with a few dollars in our pocket we were off and ordered the following:
Pumpkin Spice Latte
Gingerbread Latte
Caramel Brule Latte
Caramel Apple Spice Cider
Peppermint Mocha
White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha

Starbucks hooked us up with 6 smaller cups for our tasting party and my hus, the dispenser, figured out a creative way to pour us each our blind taste
(which of course were rinsed out between tastes to avoid tastebud confusion!)
The rules were simple:
1. Guess what you were drinking
2. Rate what you were drinking

The Taste Test Recorder (Tracy) developed a highly fanciful spreadsheet to accurately track our data for our official "Best & Worst" Poll!

So if you can't read the spreadsheet, these are the very official results :)
#1: Caramel Spiced Cider
#2: Peppermint Mocha
#3: White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha
#4: Caramel Brule Latte
#5: Pumpkin Spice Latte
#6: Gingerbread Latte

My personal favorite coffee drink that I would consider a "daily drinker" would be the Caramel Brule Latte but the yummiest Christmas inducing treat was the White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha/Peppermint Mocha options (just a little too sweet to drink an entire cup of!)
In the end, however, my traditional go to is always Apple Cider!

Fun taste testing brought to you by four fabulous adults permanently on the quest for laughs & adventure!

Urban Outfitters

I've been in love with a few items at Urban and with a desire focus on the Master Suite, I've been doing some intense detail research all over the internet!I love the pillow cases that add a dash of the yellow that I'm looking for along with a happy message. The message board will be perfect for those early morning love notes to the hus since I leave for work before dawn breaks and he's still asleep.

In serious need of some curtains to cover our sliding glass door that faces an access street, I bit the bullet and purchased Urban's Waterfall Ruffle Curtains.
While I thought they would be completely overwhelming in our room, they add this soft, romantic feel which is exactly what I wanted.
So the real purpose of this post is actually to share some discount codes I found in case you too have found yourself in love (or even in like) with some of their fun home finds! I'm incredibly frugal so while these items are are way above what I usually spend, the discounts softened the blow.

The promotion code: CLASSACT will get you 10% off your purchase.
The promotion code: FALLFORIT will get you free shipping on any order.

To cash in on the savings, enter the codes at check out.

{You will need to enter one code initially and then when you see your total, hit EDIT in the payment box at the top of the screen before processing your order. You'll be able to enter the second promotion code at this time to get both discounts}

Rescue the Room!

I just realized---I never have shared before and after photos of our new home.
Hmph, time flies!
That may have been a misleading intro because neither of these pictures are our home
HOWEVER
they sure are inspiring me!
The hus has put in his request,
"I really want to finish our bedrooms!"
Dually noted hottie-honey!
I guess it's time to get re-inspired and something about these two photos really does it for me!

What are your inspirational blog sources for rooms?
Maybe I need to take some pictures of our blank canvas and get some of your input!
I have huge walls, tall ceilings and NO idea where to start...
other than with a wallet and a priority on a headboard.

Tequila Soaked Sorbet

Sometimes life needs a little simplicity
A LOT of laughter
and a sip'a liquor.
Here's the PERFECT recipe!Tequila Soaked Sorbet
1 pint lemon sorbet
1/4 cup best-quality tequila
Finely grated zest of 2 limes

I had the perfect excuse to try this amazing treat when a Mexican themed progressive dinner was arranged to celebrate our friends who are moving out of the area.
My house was the last stop--the dessert stop--so we wrapped up our high volume laughter evening with Senor Patron & some Trader Joe's Sorbet.
(*note, Mango is not the best option but Raspberry & Lemon were a hit!)
Although it had nothing to do with us and everything to do with loving on our friends, this was our first soiree in our new home!

Creative Wedding Inspiration

The wedding season is upon us and it is definitely around our house!
As the Hus preps for a busy summer photographing couples gettin' hitched
I can't help but think of all the beautiful locations he'll be shooting & the fun things he'll see!

Needless to say, I got a little inspired when I found two new-to-me Etsy Shops.
How cute would the initial pin be as a boutonniere instead of flowers?!
Images 3 & 5 are alternatives to ring bearer pillows!

Happy Weekend, Friends!
I'll be knee deep in my junk that could become someone else's treasure
(SPRING CLEANING Garage Sale time!)
Woop, woop!

Roses are Red, Violets are Blue...

...Roseola is not fun but I'm rooting for Red & Blue

Confused?
Let me explain....

The midge is just finally recovering from Roseola.
After 4 days of a high temperature, it broke and then came the rash.
I'm just relieved to have an answer and to know it's almost over!
In other silly news...
my College basketball team is heading on to the Sweet 16.
Go, Saint Mary's!!
So while my fellow alumni will gather at ATT Park in San Francisco on Friday to root for our team with a fabulously funny event called
GAELS GONE WILD
I'll be cheering from my driveway as I organize a garage sale and await my Twitter Updates!
{I have never been as obsessed with March Madness as I am this year...just ask my friend, Shannon...}

1 Chocolate Bar A Day....

A few weeks ago I was perusing Facebook as I usually do when one of those little ads in the column caught my eye for Attune Foods. I can't remember what it said specifically but the word PROBIOTICS stuck out to me. While I've never clicked a Facebook promotion before, I was ecstatic I clicked this one. Probiotics + Chocolate = I'm in!My relationship with Probiotics started a few months ago. I took my Midge into the ER after he started tremoring with what turned out to be gas pain. While the ER couldn't tell me what to do or what was wrong, my chiropractor could and had some suggestions. After taking his advice and switching from Dairy milk to Rice milk for the midge + adding a recommended probiotic addition to his morning drink to regulate his digestive system, he was a brand new kid. No more gas pain and still the nutrients he needed to maintain his health and immune system. I ♥ Probiotics! Now I had to a) figure out how to get a probiotic kick for myself and b) find it in a form that tastes good (Which, to be honest, I was far more concerned with finding a way to eat a good-for-me treat than anything else). Attune Foods just so happened to offer me the best of two important worlds. {YES!}
How the Chocolate Bars work: It's recommended that you eat one full bar a day. ( Seriously? I "HAVE" to eat a chocolate bar once a day? SOLD!)
  • 3-8 grams of sugar
  • Excellent source of calcium
  • Only 80-90 calories
  • 3 grams of fiber
  • Take it on the go
Thanks to Annelies, Attune's Online Community Manager, I had the opportunity to sample 3 of their flavors so I could both see if I wanted to purchase them & share my opinion with all of you!
Annelies was so sweet she sent me 3 bars, each a different flavor:

Dark Chocolate
Chocolate Crisp
Mint Chocolate

They have now all been eaten (and only because I HAD, too, right?! ;)) I made the Hus try them, too, despite his reluctance. He thought he was going to put something that tasted like cardboard in his mouth, but, get this! Not a trace of "oooh, that's a health food" taste, we both looked at each other and did a double take. Wrap it in a candy bar wrapper and no one would know the difference! I'm officially a new Attune fan (I sound like a car salesman but I swear, so yummy! Se La Vie Snickers! Now I have a really good excuse to take a break with some chocolate :)

Party for TWO

It appears it's to start thinking about my Midge's 2nd birthday.
I was really hoping to avoid the party scene this year. I went a little overboard on his first birthday and I'm comfortable enough to tell you, his first birthday was all about me.
When nothing went exactly as I had pictured it, woe was me!
This year, I wanted to bypass the hordes of presents he didn't need, the hordes of family, & the mayhem.
I realize this is a little bit selfish.
However, my husband said he wants to do a party and apparently that's all he had to say to get me in the planning mood.

{1. ohhellofriend.blogspot.com ~ 2. iluvsugar.etsy.com
3. carnivalflavors.etsy.com ~ 4. partyaccessories.etsy.com
5. tabbycat13.etsy.com ~ 6. fabriccloset.etsy.com ~ 7. happyfamily.etsy.com
8. merrymae.etsy.com ~ 9. bklynstitch.etsy.com ~ 10. sewfreshfabric.etsy.com}

I already ordered the paper and the envelopes and supplies I need to make his birthday invitations.
I was completely inspired by Dani's at OhHelloFriend Wedding Invitation. Seriously, that girl is SO inspiring!
She is one of those people that just makes me want to spend my entire invisible fortune on crafting supplies!
Well, I'm off in dream land (and undoubtedly setting unrealistic expectations for myself-- like my Mama always says: Expectations - Reality = Disappointment)
But I can dream.... ;)
